Resources for Schools and Colleges 1.6 million school and college days are lost during the UK Autumn and Spring terms due to absenteeism. It has been proved that one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of germs and prevent illness is through hand hygiene. Studies show only 53% of students wash their hands after washroom use, and only 18% use soap

ALCOHOL-BASED HAND GELS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR PROTECTION AGAINST SWINE FLU VIRUS BY |

Soap Dispensers We offer a variety of soap dispensers made from various materials of construction, and by different manufacturers. Choose a soap dispenser that is suitable for the product you wish to use in it. For instance, not all dispensers will handle beaded or micrograin hand cleaners, which are normally heavy duty industrial gels and pastes and can damage the pump mechanism. Other dispensers are specifically designed to cope with polymer beads and micrograins. Most dispensers will adequately handle liquid soaps, but not all will handle alcohol-based gels. In some cartridge dispensers, often the pump mechanism is contained in the dispenser refill cartridges, so is replaced each time a refill is replaced. Hand Gel and Hand Sanitizer There are many myths about alcohol-based hand sanitiser gel. First and foremost it is formulated to kill germs on the skin and is thus found to be extremely useful and effective especially in medical applications, and food handling/processing. Why? Because ethanol (the type of alcohol normally used) kills most known bacteria and some viruses that can cause sickness when there is a risk of passing on such germs by hand and by handling. Other types of alcohol used in hand sanitizers may be isopropanol, or n-propanol. Additional ingredients in alcohol gels generally include a non-active thickening agent such as polyacrylic acid, glycerin, propylene glycol, and essential oils. Alcohol based hand sanitisers are more effective than soaps at killing germs, and do not dry out hands to the same extent. Clinical studies have shown that a properly formulated alcohol-based hand sanitizer with emollients is actually better tolerated than soap-and-water hand washing by as much as 20 times. The effective alcohol content in an alcohol hand gel can vary from about 35% to more than 70%, and as much as 85% in certain highly specialised products formulated for use in critical applications such as hospital operating theatres. But the higher the alcohol content, the less "room" there is for non-active agents such as glycerin to moisturise the skin. Foaming hand sanitizers formulated with alcohol are becoming increasingly popular. GOJO and PURELL PURELL hand sanitizer is formulated using alcohol and is claimed to kill "99.99%" of the most common germs that can cause illness. PURELL contains 63% ethanol as an active ingredient. To use the PURELL rub 2ml to 3ml briskly into the hands until dry. PURELL is also available in Antiviral VF481 formulation. The PURELL brand is owned by Gojo Industries, who introduced PURELL to the market in 1996. In 2004, however, Pfizer acquired the exclusive rights to distribute PURELL in the consumer market. In June 2006 Johnson & Johnson announced its acquisition of the Pfizer Consumer Healthcare division, which included the PURELL brand. GOJO re-acquired the brand from Johnson & Johnson in 2010. Barrier Cream Hand-Cleaners.co.uk supplies a choice of barrier creams from a variety of world-class manufacturers. Barrier creams are topical formulations, typically used in industry to protect workers' skin. This is achieved by placing a physical barrier (the cream) between the skin and any contaminants likely to irritate it and cause contact dermatitis, or occupational dermatitis as a consequence. Hand Cleaner We supply a comprehensive range of hand cleansing products for most commercial applications. These include heavy duty products for industrial and and automotive use, liquid and foam hand cleansers for general and commercial use, antibacterial hand soaps for more specialised purposes including food handling and processing, as well as a huge choice of alcohol-based hand sanitizers in gel and foam formats. We are always happy to advise. Hand Dryers Hand-Cleaners.co.uk offers a sensible selection of electric warm air hand dryers as an adjunct to our hand cleaners ranges.
